Part 13: Midpoint

ACT 2: MIDPOINT

Josh's Perspective:

“What is the meaning of this?” Peng Goh got out of her car as everyone stood in attention.

“Mdm Peng Goh, we lost him.” One of the officers admitted to the awful situation. “Randall Tang has escaped and we are currently sending out officers to locate him.”

“Punggol isn’t big but… we would have to send a thousand officers in order to find him.” Peng Goh snapped back with frustration in her tone. “How did you all lose one suspect?”

Blu and Josh heard a loud siren, as an ambulance zipped past. Josh was getting paranoid, but he knew there was no turning back now.

“We have to find and recapture that man.” Peng Goh said. “Show me the CCTV footage now!”

They went inside the station, only to find how messed up everything was. A blown up wall, and the interrogation cell’s door had fallen apart. He was contained with handcuffs inside, yet he still managed to break free somehow. It couldn’t have just been an explosion.

“Mdm, we… have even more devastating news.” The officers replied. “The Flexidozer that we have been keeping below the station was let loose.”

“What?” Peng Goh fell into her office chair. “Can it get any worse than this?”

“A sudden wave of wolves entered the facility, but we don’t know who actually broke the glass containment or where these wolves came from.” The officer replied, afraid that he might lose his job there and then. “There… was some sort of gas that must have attracted them…”

“This all doesn’t make sense. I need a breather.” Peng Goh said, tapping through the camera footage nearest to the station outside, though it was all but static.

“Great, there goes our leads too.” Peng Goh sighed. “Anyone see him leaving?”

“He seemed to have taken a black car, and one of our police cars was following him.” The officer replied.

“Give me a report on the location.” Peng Goh said as the officers ran off to do their duties. “Blu, Josh… we have officially got ourselves stuck under their thumbs.”

“That static is the same thing that happened at Wilbert’s house.” Josh said, relaying what Christian had said to him in a previous call. “Looks like a Dozer that can emit some sort of EMP wave…”

“What’s with all of these Dozers?” Peng Goh scratched her head. “Is there anything that cannot be made up? I would rather it all just be some sort of prank, really…”

The report came back from the officers that the police car that was chasing them was blocked by Wolf Dozers, which meant that they lost him.

“Well, that is to be expected.” Peng Goh said, walking out of the station. “Do I have to figure it all out by myself?”

She signaled the boys to tag along with her, as she entered Blu’s car without a word.

“What are you doing, Mdm?” Blu asked, as she took the wheel this time.

“We are following those cameras.” Peng Goh said, starting up the engine as the two hopped on in. “They might have stopped us on our tracks, but the cameras aren’t fooling anyone. We just have to keep riding on until we see a camera that isn’t destroyed.”

“How can you tell if the cameras are fried?” Blu asked, as she pulled on his ear.

“You have a water ability, don’t you?.” Peng Goh said. “Condense the air on the outside… and watch the sparks fly.”

“I can’t control it as well as Florence…” Blu grumbled.

“You are his personal assistant.” Peng Goh said. “I’m sure you can make yourself as useful as your boss.”

“I think we will close this damn case, if that’s the last thing I do.”

Blu condensed the air on the outside of the car, adding a bit of moisture as the car moved forward. The electric shocks from the cameras indicated that they were moving the right way. Slowly but surely, they kept driving until the cameras were no longer reacting to the water droplets.

They all arrived outside of Punggol Plaza, where many people were gathered due to some special event held by a manicure company.

“Well hidden, blending into society.” Peng Goh said, as she parked the car outside. “Well, this event is going to end.” She called for more officers to report to Punggol Plaza at once. “We’ll scan the area, boys. We’ll locate every inch of this damn place and find Randall. Or if we are lucky… the Wolf Tamer himself.”

“Are you sure this isn’t just a trap? It feels like Randall could have escaped at any time.” Blu said.

“That was what I was thinking.” Peng Goh said, as Josh stared at the fully packed mall.

“But a lead is still a lead. I will search the ends of the Earth to put him back where he belongs.”
